Making your MK3 Cavalier Radio come on at Position I (Acc) on your Ignition switch
NB: Martin (rcflyer) has found that the MK3 Astra ignition switch has the parking light contact, but is not wired up, so this will work when wired to that contact.
You will need a 4 pin relay
PNP Transistor capable of sourcing 200mA
1. Disconnect the relay coil from pin 86 and connect it to pin 30 (Relay chassis).
2. Disconnect the relay coil from pin 85 and discard the resistor (if fitted).
3. Glue the Transistor to the relay base as shown below (Collector left and Emitter right).
4. Connect the relay coil (ex 85) to the Emitter of the transistor (left pin as below)
5. Fit a bit of sleeving to the Base (centre pin below) and connect to pin 85.
6. Connect the collector to pin 86 as below.
7. Connect the resistor R1 between base and collector as below

Circuit Diagram

Now you've made the special relay, you need to connect the Constant 12V(30) and 0V(86) supplies.
Connect 85 to the Parking Lamp Supply Grey wire, either at the Ignition Switch or the Parking lamp switch (on the indicator Stalk)
Connect 87 to the Radio Switched Positive supply (and Diode from the Ignition Supply)*
Fitted
I used a welding rod to transfer the cable from the radio opening to the steering column opening
Maplin Part numbers: ( http://www.maplin.co.uk)
TR1 1 * QB66W 9p BC327 PNP Power Transistor
R1 1 * M10K 7p 10K Ohm Resistor
CPC Part numbers: ( http://www.cpc.co.uk)
TR1 1 * SCMPSA63 13p MPSA63 PNP Power Transistor
R1 1 * REMFR4 30p 10 pack 100K Ohm Resistor
Rapid Part numbers: ( http://www.rapidelectronics.co.uk)
TR1 1 * 81-0314 18p MPSA63 PNP Power Transistor
R1 1 * 62-7586 £2.20 100 pack 100K Ohm Resistor
Farnell and RS/Electromail probably also stock the parts if you have an account with them
4 pin relay from a Scrap yard £neg.
Wire as required, from Scrap yard £0
See Transistor Specs
* When you have the ignition on I or II with the radio on and the side lights on, then switching the indicators will turn off the parking lights.
The diode to the ignition feed will mean the Radio will stay on at position II, regardless of indicator position.
